Showhome unveiling milestone at the west of Market Place site

The Ripon Horblwer was amongst the guests at the launch of the new homes
THE first completed part of the multi-million pound development west of the Market Place was unveiled on Thursday with the launch of a showhome for 21 new properties. The Mayor of Ripon, Coun Sid Hawke and Ripon Hornblower George Pickles were among the dignitaries invited to see how the two-bedroom apartments will look when they open for public viewing this weekend.
Despite the current downturn in the property market, Dacre, Son & Hartley, who will be selling the flats, are confident they have a market for them. Prices start at £145,000, rising to £182,500.
"The apartments are in a highly sought after location and will appeal to first-time-buyers and couples seeking to downsize and move closer to the centre of Ripon with all its amenities," says branch manager Sonia Vinden.
A shared equity scheme is also being offered to first-time buyers where part of the flat would be kept by the builders, the Eric Wright Group, with the option of residents being able to purchase the rest at a later date.
The Market Gate development is arranged in a terrace of four blocks off Blossomgate. All the apartments have two bedrooms, a kitchen, bathroom, gas central heating and double-glazing throughout.
Mike Henry, director of Applethwaite, part of the Eric Wright Group, said: "Ripon has long awaited the redevelopment of this site and while the launch of the residential phase is an important milestone for us as the developer, we recognise that it represents much more for the city and its population."
He said mixed use developments such as the one west of the Market Place were a good way of getting back business lost to out-of-town sites.
